Job Description

MET Technician

Overview of this job:

 

Ø  To ensure the highest standard of repairs are carried out to the manufacturers specification, specifically relating to fitting and trimming

 

Customer focus:

Ø  To ensure all work is completed to the customers satisfaction and strive to exceed their expectations

Criteria for success:

This job holder can be measured by:

Ø  Customer satisfaction scores

Ø  Individual hours against time taken

Ø  Right first time (rectification amounts)

Ø  Quality of repair inspection

 

Specific tasks:

This job holder must be able to:

Ø  Receive vehicle, job card & Quality Control (QC) forms and check quality of repairs, taking remedial action if necessary

Ø  Ensure that QC form has been completed by Technician who previously worked on vehicle and Senior Technician has countersigned when applicable

Ø  Ensure repair methods are attached or avaliable for each repair (high importance)

Ø  If no methods available a repair method will need to be researched and written and signed.

Ø  Ensure that vehicle internal car care kit fitted (seat covers, steering wheel cover and floor mat) to prevent dust transfer

Ø  Collect parts from the parts department when required and ensure that they match the job card and are complete for the job described on the job card

Ø  Inform workshop controller if a part is required.

Ø  Strip vehicle as per the job card instructions, label trolley and rack with job number and registration number to enable the panel beater to commence work

Ø  Strip vehicle when requested to facilitate detailed estimates to meet work provider service level agreements

Ø  Refit existing parts and new parts to the vehicle once painting and panel beating has been competed

Ø  When additional parts are required, a supplementary form should be filled out and placed in the appropriate tray or given to the workshop controller/bodyshop estimator in order to gain authorisation and order.

Ø  Document any other vehicle damage to the vehicle noted during repairs and seek guidance from workshop controller/bodyshop if necessary

Ø  Carry out basic mechanical duties such as removing and replacing components

Ø  Carry out final checks on the vehicle after repair in line with quality control checklist attached to job card. Tick appropriate sections and sign off

Ø  Review another Technicians work and sign the quality of work in order for the car to move to the next stage

Ø  Ensure final check sheet and job card leave the department with the vehicle

Ø  Ensure the maintenance of tools, equipment and other materials

Ø  Participate fully in measurement and feedback processes, to complete and return personnel documentation on time and to embrace personnel training and development opportunities

Ø  Work to support other team members in the achievement of their objectives when asked to do so or required by their manager.

Ø  Any Bodyshop related duties

 

Knowledge and skills required:

This job holder must have knowledge of:

Ø  Automotive systems (e.g. basic vehicle layout, function and location of parts).

Ø  Parts requirements to complete job, the ability to communicate parts requirements via repair orders

Ø  Approved and established procedures for replacing components

Ø  The quality control and inspection requirements of the Bodyshop department

Ø  Manufacturers products and recent improvements through technical bulletins, training courses and technical magazines etc

Ø  Manufacturer/industry best practice body repair component replacement and basic mechanical sequences

Ø  Vehicle legislation and trade practices

Ø  Manufacturer standards and objectives. Retail facility and personal objectives, both cultural and financial

Ø  Health and Safety procedures adopted within the automotive industry

Ø  The tools to be used for appropriate operations, together with maintenance procedures and practices

Ø  Vehicle problems, warranties, services and repair

Ø  The company organisational structure

And be able to:

Ø  Work positively among other technicians and bodyshop personnel and to help them when needed

Ø  Interpret and adopt vehicle legislation and trade practices

Ø  Work both in a team and individually, manage own time

Ø  Work in a busy, active, environment

Ø  Demonstrate a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude.
