It happens far too frequently for our liking, the classic bait and switch or in other words advertise a position with certain benefits for the candidate and then when applied for the ‘job’ has been filled but there is another ‘option’.
It’s getting more and more common in the online world of job ads, especially on the likes of Linkedin, Indeed and other online job boards. This is not the fault of the platform, but the fault of the recruiters as they try to capture a top class candidate at much more favourable terms than first advertised.
We all know it’s hard in the world at the moment, but there are jobs there and good ones at that. The Automotive industry, whilst challenged at the moment, still remains one of the busiest sectors for live jobs. Here at Octane Recruitment we have over 500 live jobs all over the UK specifically for experienced Automotive professionals.
There are red flags with ‘other’ advertisers and classic points to avoid. Things like advertising location expectations. If it is expected you are to be in the workplace full time and not at home then advertise that, don’t advertise flexible working or some remote available.
Never advertise an incorrect financial aspect. If the job has a base salary and an OTE then state that, just as Octane Recruitment does. We are very transparent on the renumeration you would receive so there are no nasty surprises later down the line. Our clients give us the exact salary, bonus and overtime figures they will be happy to give the right candidate and we report this directly in our ads.
Never advertise a role and then when it’s been filled keep it on the platform chosen to attract more candidates. Then switch them to another role with different terms that a candidate that may well of not applied for in the first instance. Recruitment is a sales environment. The recruiter gets a fee for placing you. Fair enough if it’s a match made in heaven, but not so good if it’s a square peg in a round hole just to get a fee.
Here at Octane Recruitment, all of our recruitment specialists are highly experienced in our field, and everyone within your recruitment process, including the client, tells the same story about role expectations and working arrangements.
Our vetting process is one of the best around and we won’t match you with a role if we don’t think 100% you will enjoy, enhance and progress. We know our clients inside and out and that’s key to placing the right type of candidate with the right opportunity for longevity.
