Grey tops the chart AGAIN!!

It’s that time of year when lots of statistics are available in the Automotive industry and the most popular car colours are now published! Yet again Grey tops that charts for the 8^th year in a row!!

Just what is it about a grey car that the United Kingdom likes? Why not red or blue or black? Nope, its grey!

Figures that have been published by the SMMT state that more than half a million new cars were registered in 2025, which is up 2.7% which accounts for more than a quarter of all new car registrations.

Black retains second place but is around 90,000 behind Grey! Then Blue. These 3 colours account for more than two thirds of all new cars joining UK roads in 2025.

What colour is your car and what colour would you NEVER buy let alone drive. Oh and sorry but those of you with a Turquoise car but you are left a long way behind with just 12 cars registered on the road in 2026!!

Top 10 Car colour facts!

1. The least favourite colour in 2026 was Turquoise with just 12 added to roads in the UK!
2. Yellow moved up to eighth in the rankings but with reduced volumes
3. Did the Film Wicked have an effect on green car growth? Because when the film released green moved into the top ten with strong growth!
4. The largest mover was black, up by 41k units which is the largest growth of any colour in 2025.
5. The only other colours to lose numbers inside the top 10 colours was white, red, yellow and orange.
6. White and Grey swept the board in most of the vehicle segments, but luxury vehicles preferred black.
7. PHEV’s preferred black to any other colour.
8. Of course white stayed top of van buyers with over 60% on the market being white.
9. White cars saw the biggest decline down 9% in market share
10. Berkshire loves green! They registered over 6,000 green vehicles in 2025!
